Alabama's Firearms and Weapons Law

Alabama's Firearms and Weapons law was updated in 2013. Per Alabama Code Section 13A-11-85, Alabama will recognize any valid out of state carry conceal permit.

In addition, the amended law allows the Attorney General to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states which recognize Alabama licenses. The states indicated above provides updated information on which states have or do not have a reciprocal agreement with Alabama. Generally, for another state to reach an agreement with Alabama, both states' licensing laws must be substantially similar. Permit holders are reminded that while carrying a valid concealed handgun in another state, they are bound by that state's law concerning concealed handguns. A permit or license holder from another state shall carry their handgun in compliance with the laws of Alabama while they are in this state.

Alabama issues concealed handgun licenses only to residents of Alabama, through the sheriff of their county of residence. Currently, Alabama does not issue carry conceal permits to out of state residents.
